Evaluation: How did you use new media techologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Below is the prezi that i created to answer the question 4 evaluation;

Evaluation; What have you learned from your audience feedback?

For this question i decided to create another prezi to display my answer, below is the prezi;

Evaluation; How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Similarities with our advertisementBelow is our advertisement;
The lighing in this picture is similar to that of our video, it usues natural lighting, in our video the lighting it scattered through the trees, in this image it is shining through the girls hair, this creates lots of orange and yellow colours and shows the link between each image and not them being serperate. Furthermore the locations are all rather similar, we used alot of natural and open spaces, meaning there is alot of earthy colours meaning lots of greens and browns in both our video and our advertisment.

Our advert used an extremem close up, we used shots like this in our music video, lots of the time the close ups were of shots of plants, such as the one below.

With this image aswell it reflects on the advert because the way the branches and the leaves are displayed is similar to the girls hair blowing in the wind. The pattern of the leaves matched the pattern on the advert.

Furthermore in the advert we decided to just use an image of the girl. This is similar to our music video as most of the footage was of the girl and the boy hardly appeared.

Differences with our Advertisment
The photograph is edited differently, the image is much darker than alot of our video and our digipak, our video contains lots of sunlight and natural light, which is where it contrasts the image for our advertisement.

Similarities with Our Digipak - Inside Cover
Below is an image of the inside cover of our digipak;
The digipak is very similar to our music video as again it uses alot of natural lighting and alot of nature scenery, this shows continued combination of our ancillary textsas it shows how they all use the same aspects.
The leaves in the picture to the right link with our digipak due to the same type of image being portrayed with the girl standing by a tree with dead leaves around her. This is the same with the image to the right with the same girl sitting by a tree with dead leaves around her.
Similarities with Our Digipak - Outside Cover
Below is an image of the outside cover of our digipak;
The outside cover is very similar to our music video. This is because it was made from stills taken from our music video, showing that the two products are linked and makes it a little more effective.
These are the four images which are shown in our digipak.

However something which is different with our digipak is the wood background behind the two images on the right panel, this however doesn't mean it isnt related to our video as we used alot of natural footage, which is also shown in the digipak with the girl laying on the dead grass. Furthermore alot of the time scenery was filmed. Which shows the link between the two, below is an image that links with the wood background of the digipak and the dead grass that the girl is laying on.

The tree behind the girl shows the combination of our video to our digipak along with the dead leaves that she is sitting on. This is because the two images are similar.

Difference Digipak - Inside Cover
Image of our digipak inside cover;

This image is different as it shows an added component which isn't seen in either our music video or our advertisment, the quote shown in the middle panel of our music has been added to our digipak to give it a more personal touch, we believe this links it more too Moss, and gives it a more professional look.
Another reason why this image is different is the way that it is edited. We have edited it in a way that makes it unrealistic, this gives it a differen personal feel than our music video and shows that it may be linked to a different Moss song, this makes it more effective when combined with our advert and music video.

Difference Digipak Outside CoverImage of our digipak outside cover;
This image is different because of the way that it is edited, we edited it the way of the montage sectionof our music video, this shows the emotions in a different way and gives the digipak a happier emotion than our music video. This opens a new element for our tasks combined.

Conclusion
Overall we believe that the combination of all of taks were very effective, they had a great effect individual and a greater effect when combined. As each task has a different element to it, it introduces a different dimension for our task as a whole.

Advertisement - Second Draft

Today we placed more information onto our advert, this is because we felt we needed to give it a more personal touch. We added three new things to this advert, the 'HMV' Logo, a logo representing Moss' recording company and Allie Moss' website address.
Below is a clear picture of Moss' logo;

The picture had to be placed into photoshop and the black background had to be added to make the writing more visible. However when applying this to our advert we would have to take the black background away and rescale the image so that it will sit better within the frame,

We also added the 'HMV' logo onto the advert, to do this we went on the HMV website and save the logo as an image. We then placed it into photoshop and using the Lasso Tool we could select areas of the image which we didn't want. This allowed us to be left with the HMV text, after rescaling it we could place it onto our advert. Below is an image of the overall advert;

We are happy with this advert as we think it mirrors the image of our music video and our digipak, we also believe that the advert is to a professional standard and works well with our production.

Our Advert - First Draft

We have recently began to design our advertisement, we tried to design it to be similar to the digipak, below is an image of our first draft;

On the first draft of our advertisement we thought we would keep the information basic, we kept to what we believed should be seen on the advert. We kept it simple in terms that it matched well with our digipak, We used the same font used on the digipak and then used the Wacom Bamboo Tablet, to create the handwritten text. The only difference we had with this to our digipak was that we made the colours different, this meant that although it had similar aspects to our digipak it was different as we didnt want it to be boring

Planning: Advertisement Initial Photos

Today I modelled for pictures which we could use for our advertisement. As it was windy out we wanted to experiment with my hair blowing in the wind, this meant placing it across my face and picking it up and letting it drift in the wind. We got some pictures which were then edited, and now displayed below;
We believe this image is decent, as I am looking directly into the camera, this makes it eye catching for the audience. However this cannot be seen as a good image for our advert, this is because the text being used will be over her face and therefore covering her eyes. Which we see and the strongest part of the image, so it is unlikely we will be using this.

This image stood out to us, and we liked the emotion on sarah's face, also the movement of her hair compared to the stillness of her face made the image stronger. The problems we have with this image however is the emotion on her face. We feel that the image will be on the digipak and will contrast other songs on the CD. Although it matches the song 'Corner' it may not match some of her happier songs. Also the same as the image above it will be hard to get the writing over the top of the image, as it will mean writing over her face.

Here is the image again except in black and white, we do not like this one as much as we would prefer it to be in colour.

This image is our favourite, as the girls face is not in the image the audience can read her expression however they want, this means if they are listening to one of the sad songs on the album then they may think the girl is upset in the photo, however if they are listening to one of the faster songs they may think that the girl is smiling and will interpret the image differently. Also there is a lot of movement in the image, which we was trying to achieve and the red of the hair is eye catching

We decided to add 'SAMPLE' to the images to see which ones would sit better with the picture, we decided we liked the third image better, this is because some of the image isn't really lost when the text is added. This is why we are going to use the third image

Magazine Advertisement Analysis

By researching an advert of the real and successful band 'Paramore' I can understand what is needed to make a successful advert that is affective, which will help me in my project when creating an advert.
Below is the advert I have chosen to analyse is Paramore's for the release of their new album.

I think this advert is very effective as it is very eye catching, although it is not as bright as many other adverts it there are different images within the frame which makes it effective. Many artists are unable to put too many images in one frame as it can look to crammed and overwhelming, however they have balanced the images out effectively.
Also the ginger hair of the girl is eye catching as it stands out from the rest of the colours, she is also closer to the camera than the rest of the people and you focus your attention more on her, this is because she is the lead singer of the band Hayley William's.
The words on the advert however are in contrast to the images on the advert with it saying 'BRAND NEW EYES' the words brand new make you think everything is new, but the wood used for the background of the picture looks old and dirty, so therefore shows a contrast.
Finally unlike other adverts this one has information on it about the bands album and tells you when it is out and what it is called.
Relating this to our project
We can relate this to our project because it is quite a vintage looking image, which is what we might go for when advertising our song. Also it makes us think whether we want to overcrowd our frame or keep it simple yet effective.

Advertisement - Ideas for the Advert

We have decided to do some research into what we would include on our advert, the images shown below are ones which a group member has taken for his photography course, we believe when creating our advert we may be able to recreate some of these images using our characters.

This is image is our favourite, we believe we could easily recreate it if we have to for our advert. The photograph is very emotive and strong, it is also eye catching, it will be simple to use white writing over the image, or writing around the image.

I do not like this image as much as the previous one, however I feel that it is still strong, the emotion between  the boy and girl easily mirrors our music video and it will be simple to recreate this photograph.  Furthermore, like the previous image it will be simple to place text over the image without ruining the picture, this means it can work well for an advert.

This is my least favourite of the three images, as the two peoples faces are clear within the photograph. The expression on the males face is too happy for that which we think will link well with our music video. Also with the way the photograph was taking it will be hard to place writing over the top without writing over a face or ruining the photograph.

Overall, we will look at taking a variety of photographs to put on our advert and will later chose which we believe is the strongest image

Advertisement, component of the advert

Advertisements are important in promoting a music video, however to have a successful advert it has to involve different components. If it is advertising the release of a CD or an album the advert should display a date, the date would be the release date of the album. Many posters advertising songs often say the date somewhere, on the image below you can see it says 12.2.08 for the release date of Britney Spear's CD. Also the image on this poster is related to the name of the album 'Circus' the poster looks identical to one you would find that would be advertising a real Circus or a fun fair, this relates the image.
The image also says 'Britney Spears' in bold lettings and with the name of the CD with patterns to either side to make it stand out. This means all the information that is needed is on the CD.

If a poster was advertising a tour and not an album instead of having the album name it would have the name of the tour instead.
If all of these components are used it can mean the advertisement will be professional looking and to a high standing. We are hoping to take all of this into consideration when producing our advert.

Digipak our Fifth Draft

We are hoping that this is the finished draft for our outside cover as we have now added the writing to the spines. We feel that it works well with the central image, we didn't want to change the font or the font size, so it is the same as the tracklisting, we felt that if we changed it, it would make the cover look out of place and it wouldn't flow as well.

We feel that the spines link well with the digipak and are pleased with the result;

Digipak our Fourth Draft

Making our digipak more professional and realistic, we knew we would have to include a barcode and the tracklisting to the outside cover. Using a tutorial that a group member found online he was able to create a barcode which meant he wouldn't be using a real life one and had created it himself.
From a previous post i have wrote about desigining a font which we could use, this is the font we decided on;
Using this font we used the tracklisting rom her passerby EP and 2 songs which she released as singles. We decided to add a bonus track as well which was a live performance of her singing at the BT Tower.

From previous research we felt we needed to add a small section onto the digipak regarding copyright issues, we felt that this would make the whole thing look more professional. We also decided to include her website URL, and created a made up 'AM Recordings Ltd.'  We made this font smaller than the rest, and didn't use the stroke feature in Photoshop, this meant that it was still readable but wasn't eye catcing and wouldn't take the focus away from other aspects of the didipak.
The other text however ont he cover uses the stroke feature, this means the text is bordered making it stand out more.
In order to use thestroke feature, a text layer needed to be created, after this we had to select the fx button at the bottom of the layers window. We then had to select the bottom option of stroke, which opened a new window.
Below is an example of writing with and without the stoke tool;

It is clear that the stroke tool enables the text to stand out from the background, it makes it more bold and eye catching. Without the stroke tool being used it means that the text is lost to the background. By using the stroke tool on our digipak it means that the writing will be more clear.

Below is the image of our digipak with the tracklisting on;

All that we have left to do on our digipak is to complete the spines.

Digipak - Text Track List

When desigining the digipak we want the text to be personal and different from other texts, we also want it to be to a high standard that will match the rest of our digipak.
We done some research into what text we would be using on the digipak, below is an image of all the texts we will chose from;

We then asked a group of people which they felt was their favourite text and most of them preferred the 7th text. This is the text which we will be using on our back panel

Our Digipak - Third Draft

Our outside cover on our third draft is very similar to our second draft, we decided, we liked the way the pictures were laid out on the frame and we decided to add the artists name and the name of the song, we thought it would sit well on the bottom of the polaroid pictures and began to experiment with different texts. To do this we used the Wacom Bamboo Tablet this meant that the text could be written directly onto the picture and it made the writing unique to our digipak.
Below is an image of this;

The inside cover of our digipak was changed as the central panel seemed to plain, this is why we decided to do some research to make our digipak more personal to allie  moss, after doing some research a member found a interview she had been in and paraphrased what she said, he wrote it on a piece of paper, cut it out and took a photo of it, below is the image which he took;

Using the Lasso Tool in Photoshop we could select the area we wanted to use, rescale the image. After doing this we could change the contrast and brightness of the image and place it where we wanted it.

The image on the middle cover has changed our inside cover a lot, we like the way it is laid out and that it gives our digipak that personal feel to it. We decided that if we have enough time we will create a booklet and place it over the central panel and when it is removed it will reveal the quote. The booklet may include the lyrics of the song.

Our Digipak Second Draft

We have decided to change some images on our digipak, we were unhappy with the image on the front of the digipak so we decided to look at other pictures to what we could change it to. We tried various images as we had to get one which suited the rest of the digipak and matched its theme. A single image alone didn't seem to suit the rest of the digipak, so on photoshop we found a setting which meant we could change the image into polaroid pictures, we then turned 2 images into polaroids and set them both as the front cover. We think this stands out nicely and makes the digipak look more complete. This version of the digipak is shown below;

New Front Cover

 Same Inside Cover

We are happy with this version of our digipak and are going to be adding writing onto to digipak to complete it, after we have done this we will update it.

Our Digipak First Draft

This is our first idea for our digipak, we have arranged the images so that they do not look to crowded within the frame.

The Inside Cover

The outside Cover

However we are thinking of changing the image on the outside cover to the right, we do not think that this image sits appropriately with the rest of the digipak

Starting Our Digipak

Since recently finishing our music video, we have decided to work on our digipak, unlike the digipak which I displayed in a recent post ours will be different as we are hoping to use one long image across the section containing the disks. Although on the other 3 where some of the writing will be they will be 3 separate images. So far we have come up with a rough idea of what we want our digipak to look like, however we will be editing it and working on it to make it to a higher standard.

Digipak Photos

To make our digipak relate more to our song we have decided we do not want to take separate pictures for our digipak. This means we want to take stills from our music video to use as then the video and the digipak will have a link.
However we are thinking we will have to use a few separate images if we cannot find any pictures which we think link with the song, the video and all fit together nicely in the frame.
Below are some images we were thinking of using;
