Corner - Allie Moss

Lyrics and Video for 'Corner' by Allie Moss;

Permission for our song

We recieved an email from Allie Moss regarding permission for the song 'Corner' we are pleased to know that she granted us permission. We are very happy with the fact she gave us permission to use the song in a music video as out of the 3 songs we chose this was our favourite. We have not yet heard from the other 2 artists but we look forward to filming for this song. We now are focussing on thinking of ideas for the video and different locations in which to film.
The email we recieved from the artist is shown below;

Requesting our song

After picking a genre which we would like our song to be we decided to look for that genre, we found 3 songs which we were interested in, the first was 'Rough Cut' by Amber Rubarth. We found this song at http://www.unsigned.com/
The next song we found was 'Neopolitan Dreams' by Lisa Mitchell, however we found out that this artist was signed to Warner Music Austrialia and didnt think it would be likely we would be allowed permission for the song.
The third song we found was 'Corner' by Allie Moss, this was our favourite of the three.

We have now requested permission for all three songs and are now waiting to hear back from them, a member from my group sent an email to Allie Moss's webpage, this email is shown below;

Finding our Music

We have all been searching various websites such as http://www.unsigned.com/ this is to find the right type of music we are looking for.

We want to chose a song which is similar to 'Your Song' by Ellie Goulding, that is because we believe it to be a very emotional song, also the song we are looking for we want it to be slow and heartfelt, this is because we think we will make a good music video to this music genre.

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares to You

In class we discussed how meaning emotion can be displayed in a music video, the video 'Nothing compares to you' byt Sinead O'Connor is a great example of this.

This video shows a great deal of emotion from the artist, thevideo was filmed in one take, Sinead O'Connor shows emotion when saying the word 'Mama' asshe begins to cry, this is because she dedicated this song to her mum, who at the time had recently passed away, This is a good example of emotion which caused a great deal of controversy.

How can we measure the success criteria of a music promo video?

What is the purpose of a Music Video?

A music video can have many different purposes, some of these purposes can be;
To add value to the song
Interpretation of the lyrics
To tell a story
For people to emphasise the visual element
To promote the song
To promote the artist
Gain interest in the song/band
Spark debates of controversy
To entertain
Target aparticualr audience
Makes sense of the song

The main purpose of a music video is to promote the song and the artist, because of the creation and increase of music videos it means that songs can now befurther understood and played in a wider variety of media. Instead of music just being played on the radio it can now be shown on TV on music channels such as MTV and VIVA. Also it means it can be shown on websites such as Youtube.com. By people accidently coming across music video's it can lead to the person listenning to a songand liking it, making them look for more songs by the artist, causing them to become more popular and gain a wider audience.

My Favourite Music Video

This is one of my favourite music videos, the song is a few years old along with the video, it had an impact which enables me to still remember it. This is because it is different to other music videos. The video itself was made in America, and the people that are seen, apart from the band, are not actors. The video represents the title of the song 'Dirty Little Secret' this is because the song is about secrets and the people holding up card are what the person hasn't told anyone so it is therefore their secret. The video is very eye catching as the words on the card, make the viewer want to stop and watch the video.

Brief

My task is to produce a music 'promo' video, it can be up to 5 minutes and i will be working in a group of 3  people in order to produce a better quality music video.
I will also need to produce a 'digipak' for the songs release on DVD, a critical evaluation which i will publish on the blog. During the making of the music video i will be researching and planning about the different things that I can do.
